Disaster Relief
Our chapter provides disaster relief assistance to individuals and families affected by natural and manmade disasters in Philadelphia, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Upper Bucks Counties. American Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate emergency disaster-caused needs. The core of Red Cross disaster relief is the assistance given to individuals and families affected by disaster to enable them to resume their normal independent lives. Learn more about how we help people during a disaster.
Red Cross Emergency Services are available to all members of the armed services, and to their families. Both active duty and community-based military can count on the our chapter to provide emergency communications, emergency financial assistance, counseling, veterans assistance, and aid in the field where Red Cross workers are deployed to serve with America's military. As a way to upgrade the level of service that the chapter provides to its disaster clients, the Red Cross House in West Philadelphia opened in spring 2003. Learn more about The Red Cross House.
AmeriCorps - National Preparedness and Response Corps (NPRC)
The mission of the National Preparedness & Response Corps (NPRC) is to provide vital emergency assistance to communities affected by disasters and increase preparedness by way of community outreach and education through Red Cross service activities.
There are currently 25 different NPRC sites across the country in various Red Cross chapters, with Philadelphia going into their 11th year. NPRC members provide age-appropriate and culturally diverse Community Disaster Education presentations in high-risk areas in Philadelphia with a goal of increasing awareness and knowledge of disasters and other emergencies.
Corps members are a part of Disaster Action Teams (DAT) which provide immediate response to disasters. NPRC members will also respond to national disaster assignments as part of the American Red Cross DSHR system.
The NPRC members will participate in monthly service projects and member developments to increase their knowledge about themselves, their abilities, and the communities around them. Learn more about this and other AmeriCorps National programs here.
