July 4th - Sunoco Welcome America
by Youssouf Coulibaly

On the evening of Monday, July 4th, the Sunoco Welcome America festivities concluded with a parade, concert, and fireworks on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. A group of about 15 Disaster Services volunteers gathered at a tent,  set-up just behind and to the right of the stage where Elton John performed, to hand out water and offer support to parade participants. All of the volunteers assisted with the parade until about 8:30 pm.

Afterwards, volunteers dispersed into the crowd of thousands to enjoy the music and fireworks. From the parade to the fireworks to the music and food, the festivities were a hit with people of all ages.

This was an amazing experience, and I was very happy that I was able to be a part of it. I'm looking forward to volunteering at similar events in the future. Thanks to everyone for a great day!

4th of July Parade in Glenside
by Janice Lufkin

The American Red Cross Eastern Montgomery DAT Team participated in one of America’s oldest consecutive 4th of July parades. Glenside hosted its 102nd processional with a 1.5 mile route through the heart of Glenside’s business district.

Gene Kiessling and his wife cleaned, polished, and drove one of the vans for a shining appearance in the event.
