Red Cross Joins Fire Department To Promote Safety
Tom Foley, CEO of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Red Cross, and Lloyd Ayers, Philadelphia Fire Commissioner, staged a community walkthrough on Wednesday, June 22 in the Kensington neighborhood to call attention to the importance of fire prevention and home safety.

Ten children have died in Philadelphia due to fires in the past two months.

Foley and Ayers joined more than 25 volunteers to distribute smoke detector batteries, fire safety leaflets and other vital information to residents in the areas most affected by recent disasters.

"It is tragic that so many children should die in fires in such a short time. The importance of having a family disaster plan and a working smoke detector with a fresh battery cannot be overstated. We hope that today's event will help save lives in our community, where we have already lost so many," explained Foley.

If you are interested in participating in future community walkthroughs, please contact Kristy Harris at harrisk@redcross-philly.org or 215-299-0493.
