Malvern Fire Company Open House

by James Gallagher

On Saturday, May 7 I was Fred Cross at the Malvern Fire Company open house. The open house was hosted by the town of Malvern and drew support from a number of surrounding communities.

In attendance were Pennsylvania state troopers, postal inspectors and representatives from the local police department. University of Pennsylvania Hospital sent Pennstar II, a helicopter that transports trauma victims from an accident and moves patients with life-threatening conditions between hospitals. People were allowed to climb inside and ask questions.

The open house was attended by more than 300 people, the majority of whom were young children.  Peter Rucci and I handed out Red Cross brochures.  I also did a lot of interacting with both children and their parents. Children ran up to hug me and parents brought their kids over. I loved being Fred Cross!

The Red Cross was received warmly by everyone. It was a great time. I had a lot of fun and look forward to doing it again.
